Church Stretton, UK

A national awareness campaign that aims to promote the numerous ways in which animals benefit humans through companionship, therapy, or work.

What do we do?

The National Human-Animal Bond Awareness Day is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to increase awareness of the numerous ways in which animals assist humans in health and wellbeing. We intend to promote the messages from charities that educate the general public on their work through therapy. By increasing the understanding of the capabilities of the support animals, our campaign wishes to support them through increasing followers, volunteers, and of course fundraisers that are so vital.

What services do we offer?

During the year we promote the charities or organizations that harness the human-animal bond, by sharing their stories and opportunities to volunteer for their causes. Each July we organise presentations with animal healthcare experts. The day is thoughtful and fun and aims to raise awareness of the many ways in which animals assist humans. Talks from previous days can be found on our YouTube channel www.youtube.com/@Human-AnimalBondDay The day was created due to inspiration from the work of StreetVet who provide veterinary care and support to those individuals who are without a permanent home and have their companions by their side.

Who can we help?

There are vast numbers of people who benefit from the human-animal bond. We raise awareness of the charities and services that provide therapy animals such as Support Dogs, Medical Detection Dogs, Pets as Therapy, Donkey assisted therapy or companionship. Also those who help to look after their beloved pets or support through loneliness, such as The Cinnamon Trust or Give The Dog A Bone. There are no boundaries on who could benefit from the human-animal bond so our campaign is for everyone.

How do we support One Medicine?

The National Human-Animal Bond Awareness Day campaign understands that medical advances shouldn’t just be about human benefit, that they can help animals too. Many people understand the link between spending time with animals and improved well-being. Collaboration and education are key to One Health.
