Share your One Medicine story

Your story has the power to inspire change - and bring hope to humans and animals alike.

Every step forward in medicine, whether for humans or animals, begins with real experiences, real challenges, and the shared hope to make lives better.

We’d love you to share yours.

What kind of stories are we looking for?

We invite you to share a personal story about:

  • A moment when human and animal medicine intersected – for example:
  • A veterinary innovation, product or breakthrough inspiring human treatment (and vice versa)
  • A condition you share with your beloved companion animal
  • An emergency situation where a human doctor has helped your companion animal – or an animal professional has helped you
  • A turning point or challenge you faced whilst on a medical journey (human or animal)
  • A reflection on collaboration – when doctors, vets, researchers or other professionals worked together and made a difference
  • A tribute to a loved one (human or animal) whose life illustrates the promise of One Medicine
  • A light bulb moment perhaps when you realised that much of what you were studying in human medicine was also being explored in veterinary medicine
  • An example of a product, technology or piece of equipment that you’ve used or produced that could benefit both humans and animals

Your story might be about resilience, discovery, compassion, innovation – or simply an insight you gained along the way.

Why share your story?

  • Create awareness. Personal stories make One Medicine tangible and meaningful.
  • Inspire collaboration. When professionals see real experiences, they’re more willing to reach across disciplines.
  • Give a voice. Your journey can help others feel seen, heard and understood.
  • Shape policy and practice. Stories can influence funders, regulators, researchers, and institutions to support ethical, integrated, cross-species medical innovation.

How to submit

  1. Write your story. Use your own words to tell your story. Share who was involved, when and where it happened, what took place and what changed (or didn’t).
  1. Share visuals (optional). A photo of you, your animal companion or the medical setting can bring your story to life.
  1. Consent & permissions. By submitting, you confirm you have permission to share the story (and any photos) and give us permission to publish and share it.
  1. Send us your story. Complete the form below or email your submission to info@humanimaltrust.org.uk

We’ll review all submissions and selected stories will be featured on our website, social media, in newsletters and (with permission) in reports and at events.

Tips for writing

  • Be honest and personal – the small details often resonate most.
  • Don’t worry about jargon – explain technical terms or skip them if they don’t matter to the story.
  • Focus on impact — what changed (for you, your companion animal or others) and what you learned.
  • If you prefer, you can submit an audio or video version instead of text.

We look forward to learning from your journey – because every story moves One Medicine forward.
