As part of our celebrations for One Medicine Month, we’re excited to announce a new round of funding through the Humanimal Trust Connections Award – a unique opportunity for professionals committed to advancing human and animal medicine through collaborative research.
This award is the only fund of its kind dedicated to supporting small, multidisciplinary projects that build bridges between human and veterinary medicine.
By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, the Connections Award embodies the One Medicine ethos: that humans and animals benefit from equal and shared medical progress, but not at the expense of an animal’s life.
Now in its third year, the Connections Award has already helped bring inspiring initiatives to life. These include:
- A student-led study on the levels of environmental toxins in humans and animals living in the same household.
- A project uniting specialists in human and veterinary dentistry and maxillofacial surgery to explore research into diseases of the head and neck affecting all species.
- A student-led survey investigating One Medicine awareness among healthcare professionals in Ghana.
The application process will commence later this year, and all submissions will be reviewed by our Science Committee, made up of leading human and animal health professionals, academics and researchers from around the world.
Andrea Short, Research and Scientific Outreach Manager at Humanimal Trust, said: “A One Medicine approach can and will be more sustainable, develop treatments faster and more efficiently, and ensure that cutting-edge medical breakthroughs benefit people and animals equally.
“Through our Connections Awards and other One Medicine research funding, we remain committed to developing a strong evidence base that highlights the urgent need for greater regulatory support for cross-species medical developments and increased investment in multi-disciplinary research. We look forward to receiving applications to this year’s Award.”
