Last weekend, Humanimal Trust supporter Kate was joined by friends, fellow supporters and their dogs at Fraisthorpe Beach on the East Yorkshire coast for a special memorial and fundraising walk in honour of her beloved companion, Ziggy.
Following Ziggy’s passing, Kate decided to channel her grief into something positive by organising a fundraiser and memorial walk for Humanimal Trust in his memory. Thanks to the generosity of everyone who took part and donated, the fundraiser has already raised an incredible £4,263.
Celebrating Ziggy’s Life at His Favourite Beach
The event was held at Fraisthorpe Beach, a place that held special meaning for Ziggy and his family. As his favourite place to visit, it was the perfect setting for friends, supporters and their four-legged companions to come together, celebrate his life and create new memories in his honour.
Reflecting on the day, Kate said:
“Seeing all the dogs enjoying themselves and so happy was so lovely. I hope Ziggy was watching over us and even splashing in the waves unseen.”
The response to the fundraiser exceeded all of Kate’s expectations.
“The fundraising for Humanimal Trust surpassed anything I’d hoped for and I can’t thank every person who donated enough. My hope is that it will go a small way to helping other dogs have the opportunities for treatment that Ziggy had.”
Supporting One Medicine Through Ziggy’s Legacy
Humanimal Trust is a cause particularly close to Kate’s heart after nearly eight years of care from our founder, Professor Noel Fitzpatrick, and the team at Fitzpatrick Referrals. Throughout his life, Ziggy received treatment for a number of complex conditions, including surgery and ongoing stem cell therapy for degenerative elbow disease, as well as major back surgery for occult tethered cord syndrome.
These conditions affect both animals and humans, highlighting the shared health challenges at the heart of Humanimal Trust’s One Medicine mission. By supporting research and collaboration between human and veterinary medicine, Humanimal Trust works to improve the lives of people and animals alike.
Kate’s fundraising walk was not only a touching tribute to her much-loved companion, but also a meaningful way of helping other animals benefit from the advances in treatment and care that made such a difference to Ziggy’s life.
The fundraiser remains open for anyone who would like to support Ziggy’s legacy and help Humanimal Trust continue its vital work: https://humanimaltrust.enthuse.com/pf/kate-sellers
