Humanimal Trust has won a £1,000 Movement for Good award thanks to nominations from the public.
Humanimal Trust is one of 500 winners in specialist insurer Ecclesiastical's Movement for Good awards, which is giving £1 million to charities this summer.
As a key component of our charity activity Humanimal Trust works through education to inspire everyone to take the One Medicine message forward for the benefit of future generations of both humans and animals worldwide.
Over the past 12 months, we have begun work pushing to launch and develop our education programme, undertaking visits and speaking opportunities at Universities across the country. Since lockdown, we have begun to work on downloadable materials for younger age groups, initially focusing on Key Stages 1 and 2 to help children better understand the similarities and differences between humans and other species, along with the need to respect all humans and all animals.
Bringing about a world where a One Medicine approach is the norm could benefit millions of individuals across species. In terms of this specific focus area, however, we hope to reach at least 500 individuals with our education programme over the next 12 months, and this funding will be key to helping us achieve and surpass that figure, as well as helping us to establish a strong foundation upon which to develop our education programme moving forward.
This wonderful donation from Ecclesiastical Insurance will assist us in continuing to develop work in this area, so that we can reach more of the professionals of the future, and across a wider range of age groups.
Members of the public were invited to nominate causes close to their hearts, with 500 gifts of £1,000 available for donation. 13,695 charities were nominated by an amazing 253,879 members of the public.
Jo Blake, Development Manager at Humanimal Trust, said:
“We are enormously grateful to each and every Humanimal Trust supporter who took the time to nominate us for one of Ecclesiastical’s Movement for Good Awards. The £1000 donation will make a huge difference to our work developing our Education Programme to inspire the veterinary, medical and research professionals of the future to embrace the concept of One Medicine. Thank you all so much for your support.”
Mark Hews, group chief executive at Ecclesiastical, said:
“We would like to thank every single person who took the time to nominate a good cause as part of our Movement for Good awards. Ecclesiastical is a unique financial services group. We are owned by a charity which means all available profits can be given to the good causes that are so important to our customers. As a company whose purpose is to contribute to the greater good of society, charitable giving is at the heart of our business. We know that £1,000 can make a huge difference to the incredible work that charities do and we’re looking forward to seeing how this financial boost will change lives for the better.”
