A note from our inspiring CEO, Joe Bailey, on International Women’s Day:
#AccelerateAction, what a fantastic theme for #IWD2025!
Women are generally considered to be chattier than men, and whilst I can certainly talk a lot (too much), I am also a doer - as are the many, many women who inspire me daily. For there is little point moaning about gender inequality if we aren’t prepared to do something about it.
For many years, I worked in predominantly male-based environments. I was seen as physically weaker, too sensitive, overly emotional, hormonal, and then as a single mum, I was often excluded from gatherings and get togethers. I worked hard to fit in, to strengthen my body and mind - to do better, be better, be seen for my abilities, not my sex, and to stand up/speak out for injustice.
I have had the immense good fortune to work with incredible women from all over the world, from different backgrounds, cultures and religions. And, whilst we may look different, speak different languages and share very different lived experiences, our commonality is in our resilience, our determination and desire to make a positive difference - to help those who are not as fortunate as we are.
I am proud to be a woman, but really, I’m just a Joe, trying my best.
We are all individuals, all animals, human and non-human, doing our best to survive. But if we want to thrive, we need to appreciate the many similarities between us, help each other and focus on solving the many problems this beautiful planet is facing…together!
By closing the gender divide, appreciating the intrinsic link between all species, and bridging the gap between medical and veterinary professions, we will ALL benefit.
