Supporter Lisa and her husband William are raising money for Humanimal Trust by taking part in a virtual walking challenge, covering 75 miles around a route of London.
The couple are completing the challenge in memory of their beautiful cat, Brooklyn, who they sadly lost to an aggressive cancerous tumour earlier this year.
Lisa, said: “We all know someone, human or animal, who has been affected by cancer. Animals get similar diseases to us, but at the moment, there is little communication between human and veterinary medicine. Humanimal Trust aims to share knowledge between doctors, vets and researchers to enable us all to have the best healthcare, which is why we chose to support them as we complete this challenge in honour of Brooklyn.”
Lisa has also experienced first-hand how we share similar health conditions and symptoms with animals. As a sufferer of MS, Lisa finds there are some days when she can make great progress on the challenge, but there are also days when she can only do a small amount.
Working as a pet sitter, she noticed that a cat she used to look after, Ginge, was experiencing similar difficulties to her. Ginge had a condition that caused him to have some days when he could walk on all four legs, and other days when he could only drag his back legs.
“He kept going, nothing stopped him - he is also my inspiration”, said Lisa, and she shares that same determination when it comes to completing her challenge.
